Visible Hands

The argument that venture capital's underrepresentation of women and people of color is a "pipeline problem" — that there are simply not enough qualified founders from underrepresented backgrounds to warrant a different allocation of capital — has been made so often and by so many established funds that it has acquired the status of received wisdom. Visible Hands was founded in 2020 to disprove it, systematically and publicly.
Co-founded by Justin Kang and his partners, Visible Hands operates simultaneously as a pre-seed venture fund and an intensive accelerator program for founders who identify as underrepresented in the technology industry. The firm invests from $100,000 to $500,000 in pre-product or early-product stage B2B software and tech-enabled services companies led by Black, Latino, Indigenous, and other underrepresented founders, providing capital alongside a six-month program of intensive support: technical mentorship, product development coaching, go-to-market strategy, and access to a curated network of operators, advisors, and follow-on investors who participate specifically in the Visible Hands ecosystem.
The accelerator model is not additive to the investment. It is integral to it. The founders who go through Visible Hands' program arrive at their seed rounds with tighter product definitions, stronger unit economics, and a set of relationships with the follow-on investor community that the fund has spent years building. The result is a follow-on rate that validates the pipeline thesis's inverse: when underrepresented founders are given the capital, the support, and the network access that better-connected founders receive as a function of their social geography, they build companies that attract institutional capital at the same rate as anyone else.
Backed by institutional capital including support from Boston's academic and technology community, Visible Hands has built a chapter structure and alumni community that reflects the same compounding logic that makes university-affiliated funds powerful: each cohort adds to a network that makes the next cohort stronger. For the institutional investors who need evidence that the pipeline problem was always an excuse rather than a constraint, Visible Hands is now producing it, one portfolio company at a time.
