Methodology & Compliance
Selection Methodology & Independence
How Capital Honors identifies, evaluates, and recognizes distinguished leadership in private capital, in any jurisdiction.
Independence Statement
Capital Honors is an independent editorial recognition body. We are not affiliated with any fund, limited partner, placement agent, or financial institution. Our editorial team operates without influence from commercial relationships. Nomination is free, open to anyone, and confers no advantage; every candidate, however identified, is subject to the same corroboration, screening, and editorial review. Nomination does not guarantee inclusion, and inclusion does not require purchase.
The Process
Selection in Two Stages
Selection proceeds in two stages. First, a data-driven screening evaluates the candidate pool against the published criteria below, using publicly available signals: fund and transaction activity, professional history, market presence, and press coverage. Second, our editorial team reviews and confirms the selection set. The inaugural 2026 cycle began from an evaluation pool of more than 9,000 professionals and firms.
Recognition is extended by invitation. There is no application and no entry fee. Selections are finalized before honorees are notified; acceptance is complimentary, and purchasing decisions have no bearing on selection in this or any future cycle.
Eligibility. Senior investment professionals, including managing partners, general partners, founders, and principals, and the firms they lead, active in private equity, venture capital, growth equity, private credit, or allocation, in any jurisdiction.
Before Evaluation
Corroboration and Screening
Before evaluation begins, every candidacy is subject to the same screen. A candidate's role and firm must be independently corroborated across unaffiliated public sources; no candidacy advances on a single source, and titles are published as the record supports them, not as submitted. Where the record is stale, we correct it; where it cannot be corroborated, the candidacy ends.
Candidates and their firms are also screened against public registration and disclosure records, including filings maintained by the SEC and FINRA where applicable, and against sanctions and enforcement databases. This screening is systematic. It is applied to every candidate in every recognition period, uniformly, not to a sample. Fraud findings, regulatory bars, and criminal convictions are disqualifying. Matters short of that, including commercial disputes and firm-level history, are weighed under our editorial standards. Every decision is made under the published criteria, and identical records produce identical outcomes.
Evaluation Criteria
Six Editorial Considerations
Capital Honors evaluates candidates using category-specific editorial criteria. Sources may include nominations, public regulatory records, company and fund announcements, reputable data services, professional biographies, transaction reporting, and materials a candidate is authorized to submit. The availability, completeness, and comparability of information vary by candidate. Capital Honors does not audit investment performance, AUM, returns, valuations, or regulatory standing, and recognition is not a quantitative investment rating.
Transaction & Fund Activity
Documented transaction and fund activity, including publicly reported fund progressions, exits, and deal announcements. Evidence is drawn from regulatory filings, transaction records, reputable industry databases, and materials submitted in nomination. Information availability and comparability vary by candidate; Capital Honors does not audit investment performance, AUM, returns, or valuations.
Market Scale & Longevity
Fund scale relative to strategy and vintage, progression across fund generations, and consistency of market presence over time. An emerging manager scaling from Fund I to Fund II is considered on different terms than an established multi-fund platform. Where AUM figures are referenced, they reflect information provided by or publicly associated with the nominee.
Operational & Portfolio Presence
Evidence of active portfolio involvement and operational engagement, including publicly available information about portfolio company announcements, management changes, and market activity. Information reflects the public record and materials authorized for submission; Capital Honors does not independently audit operational or financial results.
Sector Leadership
Depth of specialization, category presence within a primary vertical, and contribution to advancing industry discourse. We distinguish between firms that participate in a sector and those with a documented leadership profile: market development, recognized thought leadership, origination capability, and specialist talent.
Approach & Strategy
Documented approaches to sourcing, underwriting, and portfolio support as reflected in public statements, industry publications, and submitted materials. Evaluated relative to peer norms within the relevant strategy rather than against a universal standard.
Institutional Standing & LP Reputation
Reputation among institutional allocators as evidenced by public information, long-tenured institutional investor relationships across multiple funds, and the quality of public communications. Where nominees provide documentation, alignment and reporting practices may inform the editorial assessment.
Time Period
The 2026 Capital Honors recognition program covers market activity and industry contribution from the calendar year 2025 and, where applicable, multi-year activity beginning no earlier than 2020. All time period disclosures are included in recognition materials and in the compliance documentation package.
Process Integrity
The same editorial criteria and considerations apply across all nominees within a given category. The editorial team evaluates each candidate through the same editorial framework. The process is designed so that it is equally possible for any nominee to receive a positive, neutral, or negative outcome. Criteria are not designed to produce a predetermined result.
Compensation Disclosure
Capital Honors receives compensation for optional recognition packages, editorial profile development, and physical award fulfillment. This compensation is separate from and has no bearing on selection. Honorees who decline a paid package remain listed in the honoree registry at no cost.
Corrections & Declinations
We aim for a registry of unimpeachable accuracy. Errors of fact, and recognitions extended in error, are corrected or withdrawn promptly upon review, and any honoree may decline inclusion at any time. Our review reflects the public record as it exists at the time of evaluation. That record is extensive but not infallible, and neither are we. Contact: Hello@CapitalHonors.com.
Limitations
Capital Honors does not verify assets under management, fund performance, or investment returns, and recognition is not a representation as to any of them. Recognition is not an endorsement, rating, or recommendation of any investment adviser, fund, or security, and should not be relied upon in making investment decisions.
